How did I miss an entire year of writing a blog?
I guess for me, I often get excited to post things on social media, as people can react to your photos immediately, which seems fun, as opposed to a blog where I am not sure if anyone is reading.
In February 2023, I took my parents and sister Tanya to JW Mariott in Port Carling for a mini getaway. We rented a room that had a fantastic view of Lake Rosseau that inspired me to do a painting! We had fun going to the spa and swimming outside in a warm pool in the middle of winter! I had really hoped to do some cross country skiing on the lake, but the ice was not stable enough during our visit.
In 2023, I continued to be inspired by Georgian Bay and Killarney area. My sister Tanya and I did a kayaking trip out of Killbear Provincial Park, around Franklin Island and ended at Snug Harbour. We signed up with our favourite outfitter Black Feather, and had a wonderful time. We drove up to Killarney and spend a few days at Killarney Mountain Lodge and enjoyed doing some hiking. The views on the hike were just spectacular!
We borrowed the lodges’ kayaks one overcast day and I decided to paint a tree I saw along the shoreline, just out of the channel.
Canada House at the Lodge has a nice display of my paintings in both their main hallway and in their steakhouse restaurant.
In the fall, I completed a large 48 x 60, Algonquin Lookout from the Booth’s Rock Trail. It will be headed to Red Canoe Gallery in Bala this spring (2024).
In November, my family bought me a new border collie puppy for my birthday because I felt sad that my daughter’s husky who I had been babysitting for the year, was moving away. For a few months, I actually ended up having four dogs living with me that I walked twice a day! Here is a recent photo that I took during March, 2024 of my dogs during a walk. The dog in the front is our new puppy Hugo at almost 6 months of age.
Hope 2023 was good to you. Best of wishes for a fantastic 2024.
Nancy
